Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has broken his silence on the contentious gun-shot celebration after his half-century against Team India in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash on Sunday in Dubai. Farhan stated that he doesn't care what people think and that the celebration was just a 'thing of a moment'.
The controversial celebration didn't go well with the Indian fans, given the tense geopolitical relations between India and Pakistan following the recent military stand-off. Hence, the right-handed batter copped plenty of criticism for it and got mocked in the end after Abhishek Sharma played a match-winning knock to consign Pakistan to a defeat.
Speaking ahead of Pakistan's must-win Super 4 clash against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, Farhan gave the below answer:
"I think, if you talk about the sixes, you will see that (a lot) in the future. And that (celebration) was just a moment at that time. I do not do a lot of celebrations after scoring 50. But, it suddenly came to my mind that let's do a celebration today. I did that. I don't know how people will take it. I don't care about that. And the rest, you know, you should play aggressive cricket wherever you play. It is not necessary that it is India. You should play aggressive cricket against every team, like we played today."
Additionally, Haris Rauf tried to provoke the Indian fans while fielding, making gestures about 'planes crashing', referring to their baseless claims of shooting down Indian jets in the recent military stand-off.
Sri Lanka suffered a defeat to Bangladesh in their first Super 4 game
The contest against Pakistan is as much a must-win encounter for the Lankans, who had lost to Bangladesh in their opening game of Super 4. The loser between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is likely to be knocked out of the competition following two straight losses.
The Men in Green are notably yet to play in Abu Dhabi in this tournament, while Sri Lanka have played a couple of games, giving the latter some edge.
