Just two weeks after severe flooding and waterlogging crippled the city, Pune once again reported severe waterlogging due to incessant rainfall.
With severe waterlogging accompanied by traffic snarls, several vehicles broke down on the waterlogged streets, and people had to be evacuated. One such visual from BT Kawade Road went viral on social media.
Heavy rain lashed Pune, and within an hour, water has accumulated in many parts of the city, with knee-deep water in several areas. Ghorpadi, Sopan Bagh, BT Kavade, and Rerwada have experienced heavy downpours, resulting in flooded roads and two-wheelers and rickshaws coming to a standstill.
Just an hour of rain has caused significant disruption for Pune residents. The Chandannagar and Kharadi areas have been particularly hard-hit. A tree has fallen in front of Ghorpadi village, leading to a massive traffic jam. People across Pune are suffering due to the rain, with traffic jams reported in many areas. Flooding has occurred in Taradutt and Shivdutt Colony, with water entering several houses.
After ten days of dry weather, Pune experienced heavy rain yesterday for one to one and a half hours. Today, it has rained heavily once again, causing concern among Pune residents. The working class, returning home after finishing work, has been particularly affected. Many have found themselves stuck in traffic as vehicles are left stranded due to the waterlogged roads. Heavy rain continues in the Sinhagad Road area.
In line with the IMD forecast, heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are lashing several areas of Pune city. According to the IMD, thunderstorms with heavy rains are expected in Pune during the late afternoon and evening hours on August 19 and 20.
The roads in Pune have deteriorated significantly following the heavy rains, with many major routes now riddled with potholes. This has created hazardous conditions for commuters and is causing severe traffic jams across the city. Meanwhile, several Punekars took to social media to criticize these perilous conditions. Today’s rain has added to the difficulties.
Heavy traffic jam from Yerwada to Viman Nagar was reported due to rain and potholes.
