Pune's Shreyasi Joshi has made the entire nation proud by winning a gold medal in Classic Slalom at the Asian Roller Skating Championships 2025 in South Korea. She secured the top spot in the Inline Freestyle - Classic Slalom category, becoming the first Indian ever to win a gold medal in this prestigious competition.
Shreyasi’s performance stood out at the event, where the best skaters from across Asia competed. Her skill, confidence, and dedication helped her take the lead and bring glory to India. Her achievement is being celebrated all over the country, especially in Pune.
Who is Shreyasi Joshi?
She is a resident of Pune and a third-year B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) student at MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU) in Pune.
This victory is a result of years of hard work and training. Shreyasi has already won more than 10 national titles. Her younger sister, Swaraali, is also a skater and has won over 9 national titles. Both sisters started skating at the age of three and earned their first national medals by the age of six.
Shreyasi stepped onto the international stage at the young age of 12, representing India at the World Roller Games in China. Since then, she has consistently showcased her talent, earning medals in global competitions held in Chuncheon, Milan, and Senigallia. Her dedication and skill have propelled her to a world ranking of No. 4 in her sport.
In a past interview, Shreyasi recalled how her interest in skating began. “When I was little, my parents took me to the field. There were some kids skating on the field next door. I liked watching them and told my parents that I also wanted to skate. That’s how I started,” she had said.
Shreyasi’s win is not just a personal milestone but also an inspiration for young athletes across India.
