The driver paid the money, and then the passengers inside the bus came out and beat the traffic warden instead. Conscious citizens, who knew that the traffic warden had no authority to penalise using the e-challan, started questioning him.
Inside his pocket, Rs 500 note was found. They started beating and abusing him. All of this was captured on video.
In the video, citizens can be seen grabbing the warden’s collar and demanding accountability. They are asking why he did it, with some even alleging that such incidents happen regularly and no one questions them. The citizens are demanding action against the traffic warden and all others involved.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vivek Patil, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said, “I don’t know the whole incident. A traffic warden indeed has no right to issue e-challans. After investigation, if found guilty, 100% action will be taken against the traffic warden and all the officials involved.”
