The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a series of green initiatives to promote environmental sustainability and tree conservation in the city. The PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, as part of the “Plant Trees, Save Trees” campaign, inaugurated the Tree Clinic Van.
The Tree Clinic Van, developed by the PMC Tree Authority, aims to safeguard the health of trees across Pune. The vehicle will be equipped to remove nails, iron cages, and wires embedded in tree trunks. The van will also provide first aid to trees under expert guidance from botanists and tree surgeons.
Citizens can report tree-related complaints or suggestions via PMC’s helpline numbers, WhatsApp, chatbot, or the official website.
Supporting this initiative, the NGO “Angholichi Goli” has launched a dedicated Nail-Free Tree Campaign. In addition, PMC also introduced a vehicle to raise awareness about environmental conservation and tree upkeep among Pune residents.
A total of 3,879 trees were planted across the city through coordinated efforts by various departments and organizations:
Tree Authority: 1,443 trees
Garden Department: 56 trees
Self-Help Groups (Amrit Van Yojana): 200 trees
Road Department: 200 trees
River Improvement Project: 1,250 trees
City Beautification Cell & Associations (NAREDCO, CREDAI, Marathi Construction Professionals): 210 trees
Building Department: 220 trees
Serum Institute & NGOs (Ashok Kulkarni): 200 trees
The drive was started on June 5 and will continue till August 14, 2025. Under this drive, PMC will distribute native saplings (1 to 1.5 years old) to citizens and NGOs at a subsidized rate of just ₹5 per sapling. Alongside, organic fertilizer prepared by the Solid Waste Management Department will also be distributed.
Citizens can collect the saplings from Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje Udyan Nursery, near Balgandharva Rangmandir, Shivajinagar, Pune, between 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, excluding Sundays and public holidays.
The Pune Municipal Corporation urges all citizens to actively participate and contribute to building a Greener Pune.
