The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) earlier this month imposed restrictions on the duties of civic volunteers, private teachers, and contractual teachers for this year’s board examinations meant for Class 12 students to ensure transparency in the conduct of the examination. However, a protest was organized at Kondhawa at Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology (VIIT) College of Arts, Commerce, and Science. The protest was staged by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday.
The students, along with members of ABVP, raised their concerns regarding the conduct of the Class 12 board exams that are currently underway. It was found that students had a chemistry paper today, and a teacher from a private coaching class was working as an invigilator during the exams.
Harsh Naik, District Coordinator of ABVP, said, "The HSC board has made this rule that no private tutor should be appointed for conducting the invigilation of board examinations. And these people are simply amending the rules. A private teacher is found to be invigilating the exams. They are simply playing with the lives of students."
Yashraj Waghmare, another member of ABVP, said, "The teacher verification should be done for board invigilation, and someone experienced should invigilate the exams. The board is a trusted body, and if these kinds of incidents keep happening, the quality of exams will decline. In a bid to ensure that the state board exams are conducted in a free and fair manner without any cheating, these rules are made, and they should be followed without any discrepancies. Strict action should be taken by the board authority."
According to the police, the principal of the junior college has been intervened with and asked to submit a letter to the board authority. The case is under investigation.
