In a shocking case from Mulikawadi in Satara taluka, a 45-year-old woman ended her life by consuming poison after her daughter eloped and married for love. The incident has triggered widespread attention and concern in the region.
The deceased, Sangeeta Dattatray Mulik, was reportedly distressed after her daughter, Apoorva Dattatray Mulik (19), went missing from her maternal home just days after completing one year of her resgistered marriage. Apoorva had registered her marriage with Kiran Nikam, a resident of the same village, shortly after she turned 18.
Sangeeta, unable to cope with the emotional shock of her daughter’s sudden disappearance, slipped into depression and consumed poison. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Satara, where she was treated in critical condition.
While her mother was fighting for her life, Apoorva appeared at the Satara Rural Police Station along with her husband. She informed the police about her whereabouts. However, since no missing person complaint had been filed, no legal action was initiated. When police informed Apoorva’s family about her return, the family responded that they could not come to the station due to her mother’s critical condition. As a result, Apoorva and her husband left the station.
Tragically, Sangeeta passed away the following morning.
The Satara Rural Police Station has registered the case and initiated further investigation.
