A major fire broke out in an open space in front of the Sinhagad Road Regional Ward Office in Pune. Four fire brigades and three water tankers were deployed to extinguish the fire. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but several portable plastic toilets were destroyed in the blaze.
According to the officials, the fire may have been started due to garbage burning and spread further due to the wind. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, they added.

A fire brigade official said, "We received a call at the control room at around 10:30am about a fire incident near the Sinhagad Road Regional Ward Office. On receiving the information, our team rushed to the spot and found that the plastic toilets and cable wires kept in the open ground in front of the ward office had caught fire. Within 20 minutes, the fire was doused, and no casualties were reported. A total of 30 firefighters were deployed to control the blaze."

In the past few months, the fire incidents in the city have increased, with the fire brigade handling nearly 80 fire-related emergencies per month.
In response, the department has requested an urgent enhancement of firefighting equipment to tackle these emergencies effectively and swiftly. The fire department is set to receive new and advanced firefighting equipment worth Rs 25 lakh. The upgraded tools include six multi-purpose fire management vehicles, five firefighting vehicles designed specifically for high-rise buildings, one mini fire engine equipped with water mist technology and 21 hand-operated rescue tools for door-opening operations. These essential tools will be distributed across all fire stations to improve response efficiency.
