Parvati: In a dramatic late-night rescue, two Police Constables from Parvati Police Station saved a woman from drowning after she jumped into a canal near Savarkar Chowk.

The incident happened around late night on Monday and has drawn praise from local residents for the officers’ courage and quick thinking.

According to information recieved, Police Constables Kiran Pawar and Rahul Unhale were patrolling the area as part of their routine beat duty. While passing near Savarkar Chowk, they noticed a woman standing alone close to the edge of the canal.

Her behaviour seemed suspicious, and the officers decided to approach her to check if she needed help.

Before they could reach her, the woman suddenly crossed to the other side of the bridge. Witnesses later said she appeared intoxicated and was stumbling repeatedly. Several people nearby tried to stop her, but she ignored them and, without warning, jumped into the canal.

Constable Pawar reacted instantly. Without wasting a second, he jumped into the water to rescue her, while Constable Unhale stayed on the bank to assist in pulling them both out. The rescue was risky, due to uncertainty regarding the canal water.

A video of the incident, which has since been shared widely, shows the tense moments leading up to the jump and the heroic rescue that followed. In the footage, the woman can be seen hesitating briefly before leaping, followed almost immediately by Pawar diving in after her.

Both the woman and the constable made it out safely. She was then taken to Parvati Police Station, where further action is being taken.

Residents in the area have lauded the bravery of Constable Pawar and Constable Unhale, saying their swift action saved a life that night.

Yashwant Nikam, Senior Police Inspector in charge of Swargate Police Station, speaking to Free Press Journal, said, "The 25-year-old victim was married a few years ago. However, due to a dispute with her husband (who works as a laborer), she left him eight months ago and started living with her friend at Janta Vasahat. She had two children as well. On the day of the incident, a heated argument occurred with her husband. Leaving her children at her friend's house, she attempted to die by suicide."
