The Pune City Traffic Police recently launched an Artificial Intelligence-based traffic violation detection system to automatically identify and penalise violators on Fergusson College Road.
Introduced on an experimental basis, the system utilises AI-powered cameras to monitor key traffic offences such as illegal parking, wrong-side driving, etc.
This system enables authorities to take immediate action against violators without manual intervention, as it analyses live CCTV footage and generates real-time alerts.
Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Runal Sujauddin Mulla, Traffic Police Inspector, said four AI cameras have been installed and they have generated 261 challans in just 2.5 days. "180 challans were generated on the first day, followed by 51 on the second and 30 on the third (till 2pm)," said Mulla.
"Most of the cases are related to illegal parking on the road, especially in front of Vaishali Hotel. On the first day, the number of cases was high. However, as people got to know about the installation of AI cameras, the cases decreased on the second and third day," he added.
