The incident occurred on January 7 around 6:15pm in the parking space of WNS Global Services, a BPO firm, in Yerawada. The accused has been identified as Krishna Satyanarayan Kanoja (30), a resident of Shivajinagar.
As seen in the video, Kanoja was standing in the parking area at the time of the incident. When the victim, Shubhada Shankar Kodare (28), got down from the bus, Kanoja, harbouring anger over a dispute, attacked her right hand with a koyta, causing serious injuries.
'Died due to excessive blood loss'
Kanoja had the koyta in his hand for some time, which prevented bystanders from intervening. As soon as he dropped the koyta, the public thrashed him. Kodare was immediately rushed to Sahyadri Hospital on Nagar Road for treatment. However, she later succumbed to her injuries due to excessive blood loss. Kodare was a native of Karad and had been staying at Balajinagar for the last four years.
'Kodare had taken around Rs four lakhs from Kanoja'
Ravindra Shelke, Senior Police Inspector at Yerawada Police Station, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said, "They both were working in the same company situated in Yerawada. As per the preliminary examination, it came to light that Kodare had taken around Rs four lakhs in instalments for her father's treatment from Kanoja. Kanoja was asking her to return his money, leading to a dispute. We have arrested the accused and are interrogating him."
A case has been registered at Yerawada Police Station under Section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 4 and 5 of the Arms Act.
