Opposition leaders have slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials over the delay in action against BJP Labour Cell office bearer Omkar Kadam.

Arvind Shinde, Congress city president, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said, "This is not the first incident of harassment of government officials by BJP workers. The PMC Commissioner should have lodged an FIR against him, but they did not even bother about the incident. Why was the action taken only after the intervention of the Women’s Commission? Justice delayed means justice denied."

Shinde added, “Why didn’t the BJP take action against Kadam? The culprits are those who did not take action on time.”

Prashant Jagtap, city president of NCP-SP, said, "All BJP corporators have been ruling with the same attitude and modus operandi for the last 8–9 years. In pursuit of tenders, BJP corporators have harassed many officials, including both male and female. Everyone is just making money under the pretext of public work."

Meanwhile, Dheeraj Ghate, city president of the BJP, said, "We are coordinating with the Health Officer, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, and Omkar Kadam. Accordingly, things will be sorted. Kadam had gone to get some information about illegal activities in the department when the argument arose. However, we are coordinating with them to know the truth."

What was the matter?

Action has finally been taken in the case of mental harassment of a female doctor in PMC’s Health Department. Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has issued an order banning Omkar Kadam and his associate Akshay Kamble from entering the corporation building and other offices after a case of mental harassment came to light.

A female doctor alleged that Kadam behaved inappropriately while seeking information about work under the Health Department.

Kadam allegedly entered her office with a group of 10–15 people, spoke inappropriately, filmed her and harassed her. Due to this, the concerned female officer had filed a complaint with the then Municipal Commissioner. But no action was taken at the time.

Later, she lodged a complaint with the Women’s Commission. Following its intervention, the PMC Commissioner banned Kadam and Kamble.
