Pune Municipal Corporation Drafts Cultural Policy To Promote Heritage And Community Engagement |
Pune is often referred to as the cultural capital of Maharashtra. However, it does not have a formal cultural policy, so the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has drafted a cultural policy and presented it to the standing committee for approval. Once approved, the policy will be implemented according to the administration.
To increase citizens’ active participation in cultural activities, town hall meetings and cultural forums will be organized. Additionally, with the help and cooperation of local artists, cultural centers and educational institutions in Pune will be constructed. Infrastructure will be provided, and spaces for cultural events, exhibitions, art displays, and concerts will be created. The policy aims to attract tourists and foster economic development among local businesses.

In line with Pune’s traditions, the policy includes suggestions for the development of cultural centers. The policy should also encompass craftsmanship, language and literature, visual arts, forts and archaeology, folk arts, music, theatre, dance, films, and spiritual culture.
