Pune Gears Up For Monsoon: PMC, Police Crack Down On Risky Hoardings

Before the onset of monsoon, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), along with the police, conducted a joint review of hoardings across the city, considering the possible threats.

Last year, many incidents of hoardings falling were reported in the city due to storms and heavy rains. Important measures are being taken to prevent the recurrence of such accidents this year.

During monsoons, due to wind or heavy rains, hoardings collapse and cause loss of life. Therefore, this year, the PMC and police administration have taken strict steps for hoarding owners. A structural audit of all big hoardings in the city has been made mandatory.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar informed that orders will be issued to complete the audit by issuing a notice under Section 149 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act.

PMC officials said that road repair work will be carried out after reviewing the roads before the monsoon. Actions are also being taken on encroachments in riverbeds and dilapidated structures and buildings, which pose a risk to the citizens.

The dilapidated and dangerous buildings in the city have also been reviewed, and instructions have been given to take immediate measures. Apart from this, action will be taken against encroachments so that it does not create any flood-like situation when excess water is released in the riverbed during monsoon.

Last year, in the Deccan area, cases of electrocution were reported. The agencies and the electric department have issued orders to remove the live wires and possible dangers.

PMC has identified 105 waterlogging spots across the city. Proper cleaning of drains and pumps will be installed at these spots.
