In a shocking incident, a 33-year-old man working at the office of Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, was assaulted by members of the Gajanan Marne gang in Pune's Kothrud area, officials said on Friday. The victim, identified as Devendra Jog, reportedly works as a social media campaign manager at Mohol's office, they added.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Bhelkenagar in the Kothrud area. "Jog was returning home after watching the movie 'Chhaava' when the altercation took place. It was the day of Shiv Jayanti, and several rallies were organised. During that time, four individuals, members of the Gajanan Marne gang, were riding a bike and cut in front of Jog. When he looked at them angrily, a dispute arose, and the four of them collectively beat Jog brutally."

Sambhaji Kadam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3), speaking to The Free Press Journal, said the accused have been identified as Kiran Padwal, Babu Pawar, Amol Tapkir and Om Dharmajeet Jigyashu, all residents of Shastri Nagar. "A case has been registered at the Kothrud Police Station under sections 109 and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Three of the accused have been arrested, while Pawar is absconding. All the accused are currently on bail. Just 8-9 months ago, they were arrested in a case under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA)," Kadam added, noting that the victim is undergoing medical treatment and is now safe.

Meanwhile, Mohol spoke with Jog via video call to inquire about his health.
