Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) is celebrating its 109th Foundation Day on June 14 by organising an exhibition of various activities, research facilities and services carried out by the institution in the water sector. Like every year, this year too, citizens will be given free entry to the centre to watch the programme, informed the newly elected Director of CWPRS, Dr Prabhat Chandra, in a press conference.

CWPRS has strong imprints in national-level projects and has also offered its services to a number of projects in neighbouring countries. Recently, CWPRS has contributed to the development of the mega Vadhvan Port, Navi Mumbai Airport, and major hydraulic studies for the biggest coastal reservoir, Kalpasar, are in progress. During interactions with the media, Dr Prabhat Chandra, Director, indicated that CWPRS is intensifying its focus on innovative research in the water, power sectors and coastal-related aspects. This also includes leveraging advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to enhance project outcomes. Additionally, CWPRS is dedicated to studying the impacts of climate change to develop sustainable and adaptive solutions for the future, along with focusing on other research areas, viz., salinity ingression and Glacial Lake Outburst Flood. Further, a Centre of Excellence for dam safety-related aspects will be developed to provide comprehensive solutions.

Talking about the work of CWPRS, Dr Chandra said, “Currently, more than 20 small and big dams are under construction on the Indus, Chenab and Jhelum rivers, some of which have been completed and some are in progress.”

Central Water and Power Research Station is celebrating its 109th Foundation Day on June 14 from 10am to 4pm, and Chief Engineer, National Water Academy, DS Chaskar will be the Chief Guest of the event. The event will begin with a lecture on "Water Governance" by Chaskar followed by cultural programmes, a quiz, tree plantation, activities of CWPRS, and a visit of models.
