Pune: A 39-year-old man from Chembur allegedly tried to kill his wife in a Pune hotel following their dispute over a financial matter, said the local police, adding that he later tried to end his life too.
The incident took place on Monday morning at Gravity Inn hotel in the Baner locality. According to the police, the accused, Amjad Mulla, an auto-rickshaw driver, had come to Pune along with his wife Nasima two days ago.
At around 8.30am, a quarrel erupted between the couple and, in a fit of rage, Mulla allegedly stabbed Nasima in the right hand and chest with a knife. Later, he tried to stab himself, said the police, adding that the hotel staff came to their rescue after hearing the woman's cries.
Currently, both of them are undergoing treatment at a hospital. An attempt to murder case has been booked against Mulla. “Once they are in a condition to speak, we will record their statements,” said the Baner police senior inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi.
