Only 28.36 per cent, or 18,624 MCM (Million Cubic Meters), of water storage is left in the dams in Nashik district. Due to the continuous increase in temperature over the last few days, the water level in the reservoirs is reaching its lowest.
The water storage in Gangapur Dam, which supplies water to Nashik city, is also decreasing day by day. Only 33.75 per cent, or 3,431 MCM, of water storage is left in the Gangapur Dam.
Water shortage is expected to worsen by the end of May
If there is no timely rain during the monsoon, there is a possibility of water shortage. Currently, there is a severe water shortage in the rural areas of the district. Water is being supplied by tankers to 500 villages. The water shortage is likely to increase further.
Considering the crisis of severe water shortage if the monsoon arrival is delayed, the district administration has prepared a shortage plan worth Rs 7.70 crore for water supply. The administration has prepared an action plan considering water shortage in 484 villages and 567 hamlets in the district.
