Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) has submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), marking the first major milestone in the ambitious infrastructure project connecting metro from Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, Nigdi to Chakan, announced MLA Shankar Jagtap on Tuesday through his X (formerly Twitter) handle.
Jagtap mentioned that the proposed metro line will stretch 35-40 kilometers from Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, Nigdi and all the way to Chakan, promising to transform how people travel across the industrial belt.
“This extensive route will connect nearly 75 per cent of the city through fast, comfortable, and environmentally friendly public transport,” he added.
For thousands of daily commuters who currently struggle with traffic congestion and long travel times to reach Chakan MIDC and other busy commercial hubs, this metro line represents a much needed travelling option.
The metro connectivity promises to significantly reduce journey times while easing the burden on already crowded roads throughout Pimpri-Chinchwad. Moreover, the metro connectivity between Nigdi to Chakan is expected to provide a major boost to local industries and the regional economy by ensuring smooth connectivity across the industrial corridor.

In addition to the Nigdi-Chakan Metro Project, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar had advised to extend the metro network from Loni Kalbhor to Uruli Kanchan on Friday, last week, citing rising traffic congestion along the Pune-Solapur Highway and growing urbanisation.
