The role of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has always been positive in providing affordable houses to the needy citizens under the civic body's comprehensive housing scheme, NMC Commissioner Manisha Khatri clarified. However, it is mandatory to reserve 20 per cent of the plots and flats in the housing project. After that, MHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority) determines the list of beneficiaries. If MHADA does not determine the list of beneficiaries within six months, further action will be taken by the municipal corporation as the planning authority, Commissioner Khatri gave a clear warning.

She was speaking at an important joint meeting organised at the Municipal Corporation headquarters regarding the comprehensive housing scheme.

The meeting was attended by MHADA Chief Executive Officer SM Avalkanthe, Deputy Director of Urban Planning of the Municipal Corporation Deepak Varade, Executive Engineer (Urban Planning) Sachin Jadhav, Urban Development Officer Prashant Sonawane and many other officials were present.

Various issues were discussed in this meeting. It was also informed that the provision of not issuing certificates to other units until 20 per cent of the flats receive an occupancy certificate is being effectively implemented. It was also informed that this scheme is not applicable to government, semi-government projects and redevelopment of cooperative housing societies.

The Commissioner emphasised that MHADA should follow transparency and timeliness in the beneficiary selection process so that the needy people can get the benefit of houses in time.
