The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a warning to residents regarding the health threat posed by mosquito breeding in water storage areas.
In a notification released on Friday, PMC's Health Officer, Dr Nina Borade, emphasised the urgent need for action to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. “During monsoons, the stagnant water becomes a breeding ground for almost all kinds of mosquitoes that carry diseases like malaria to chikungunya. And therefore, the citizens should maintain hygiene in and around their homes."
The corporation has cautioned that any delay in taking preventive measures will result in strict action. If mosquitoes are found breeding in water reservoirs located on residential or commercial premises, legal action will be initiated against them.
The PMC has urged all citizens to inspect their premises, eliminate stagnant water sources, and cooperate with health inspectors during routine checks.
