The monsoon rains have started in Satara district, and the incidence of landslides and boulder falls is highest in the villages of the district, mainly at the foothills of the Sahyadri mountain ranges in the west. The landslide and boulder fall-prone areas include 45 villages in Patan, Jawali and Mahabaleshwar talukas, while some villages in Satara and Wai talukas are also at risk.

This year, the monsoon rains have started in the last phase of May. Currently, heavy rains are continuing in the western talukas of the district, and mainly Patan, Mahabaleshwar, Jawali, Wai, Satara, Karad and the south-western talukas have to face natural disasters such as possible landslides and rockfalls during the monsoon.

Therefore, the residents of the area are demanding that the administration take measures from now on. Out of these, 22 to 24 villages in Patan taluka and ten to 15 villages in Mahabaleshwar taluka are prone to landslides, and efforts are needed from the administration to prevent the potential danger there. Since there is a fear of landslides due to heavy rains, the residents of these villages are being advised to be alert and also to migrate to other safe shelters.

For this, the administration has ordered the officials of the concerned talukas to be alert, and there is a need to keep special attention on some villages in the southwest of Wai, Jawali, Satara and Karad talukas.
