In all, 33 students from Tiger Academy in Ashti were hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning after consuming dinner at the academy late on Friday night.
These students live in the academy and prepare for competitive and police recruitment examinations. The academy provides lodging and boarding facilities to the students. On Friday, the students had dinner around 9 p.m., which included hulga dal, vegetables, rice, and bread.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, several students began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, and dizziness. All 33 were rushed to Ashti Rural Hospital for emergency treatment.
Of these, 20 students whose condition was reported to be serious were referred to Ahilyanagar Hospital for advanced medical care.
The affected students include Abhijeet Shelke, Vikas Dhumal, Sayali Mandage, Shivaji Dhanwade, Akash Bangar, Sunny Dafal, Subhash Dhotre, Gokul Dhumal, Krishna Pandule, Rohan Shelke, Pranav Bhosale, Rishikesh Khade, Ganesh Narwade, Akash Dafal, Vikas Phulmali, Rohit Jagtap, Gauri Patil, Vidya Borade, Neha Barkhade, Rohit Dhanwade, Karuna Khandagale, Rohit Rode, Ashok Shelke, Vimal Deshmukh, Manisha Saikad, Prajwal Kakade, Sunita Vatule, Anirudh Misal, Mangal Bhongal, Karan Shelke, Ram Shinde, Diksha Gazghat, Harshad Kadam, Shaikh Asif, Suraj Doke, Ashok Rupkar, and Ayan Pathan.
Health authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
