Jalgaon: NCP-SP Leaders Satish Patil & Gulabrao Deokar Likely To Join Ajit Pawar Camp |
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by Sharad Pawar is bracing for a significant jolt in Jalgaon district, with two former ministers and ex-MLAs preparing to join the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction. The anticipated switch has caused unrest within the Sharad Pawar group, which is already struggling to maintain relevance in the district after a series of electoral setbacks.
According to party sources, former ministers Satish Patil of Parola and Gulabrao Deokar are both preparing to cross over to the Ajit Pawar camp. Their move is expected to bolster the strength of the ruling faction in Jalgaon. Sanjay Pawar, district president of the Ajit Pawar group, had hinted at such political developments a few days ago.

Back in 2009, the NCP was the strongest political force in Jalgaon after the BJP, with five MLAs, including two cabinet ministers. At the time, Sharad Pawar commanded considerable support in the region. However, the 2014 Modi wave changed the political landscape, and after the NCP split in 2023, the Sharad Pawar faction has struggled for relevance. Although still present in the district, the group is now perceived as directionless, with little effort being made to revitalise the party base. Grassroots workers, frustrated by the group’s opposition status and lack of influence, are reportedly disillusioned as their grievances and demands remain unaddressed. In contrast, the Ajit Pawar faction, being in power, has been able to satisfy its workers, increasing its pull.
Patil, known for his combative political style, is said to share cordial ties with Ajit Pawar, making his entry into the latter’s camp more likely. Meanwhile, Deokar, recognised for his organisational capabilities, also appears set to switch sides. However, his induction was delayed due to opposition from some leaders within the Ajit Pawar group. During the last Assembly election, Deokar contested against Gulabrao Patil of the Shinde group and was defeated. His aggressive campaign and allegations reportedly angered Patil, who has been objecting to his inclusion in the Ajit faction.
Despite this, Sanjay Pawar is believed to have taken the initiative to resolve internal objections and facilitate the inclusion of both leaders. Satish Patil has called a meeting of party workers from Parola-Erandol taluka to take them into confidence regarding his decision. Alongside Deokar, former MLA Kailash Patil and senior women’s leader Tilottama Patil are also expected to join the Ajit Pawar group. Their formal induction is likely to take place next week.
The Sharad Pawar faction, already weakened in the district, has been shaken by the potential defection of these influential leaders. Their departure, if confirmed, would further marginalise the group and significantly tilt the political balance in Jalgaon in favour of Ajit Pawar.
