Santosh Deshmukh was abducted and murdered on December 9, 2024. It was alleged that he was killed for opposing, three days earlier, an attempt to extort money from a wind energy firm operating in the area.

Vaibhavi had appeared for the 12th exam two months after his murder, while being under the heavy burden of grief. Today, Vaibhavi paid tribute to a photo of her father's image in the morning and after that said that she is trying to fulfill his dream. “I have faith that with his blessings I will come out strong,” she had said. But today, my father is not there to pat my back. I am very sad, I wish he was here—she expressed this.

After the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, the political atmosphere of the entire state, including Beed district, had gone haywire. The absconding accused was not caught for a few days. Unsettled, Vaibhavi Deshmukh stood firm with her uncle Dhananjay Deshmukh. Along with her younger brother and grieving mother, she strongly led the movement seeking justice for her father.

Vaibhavi Deshmukh's struggles and efforts did not stop even during the examination period. Vaibhavi, determined that she would not stop fighting and that she had learned from her father’s actions, has successfully passed the test. To see her fame today, her father would have been proud—this is the sentiment expressed by the villagers of Massajog.
