Author and columnist Shefali Vaidya took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) over the rampant dumping of garbage and construction waste across the city.

Vaidya wrote, "I honestly don’t know what @PMCPune does! Every road in Pune within the city limits has garbage and construction waste dumped by the roadside, even the Pune-Bengaluru highway between Bavdhan and Baner. Mounds and mounds of festering plastic garbage, just piling up every day!"

She added, "No one clears it up or fines the people who dump garbage and construction waste. There are no corporators to complain to, as there have been no municipal elections. PMC officials have no fear of losing their jobs, so they do nothing at all!"

Vaidya also criticised the civic body over the illegal furniture showrooms on the Pune-Bengaluru highway. She alleged that the PMC officials take "hafta" from these showrooms to keep them operational.

She wrote, "There are huge, blatantly illegal furniture showrooms near the Sus Road overpass. Everyone knows they are illegal. Once a year, PMC wakes up, demolishes a few, the shops come up in under 24 hours by paying hafta to the corrupt PMC officials, rinse and repeat!"

In another post, the author said she was going to share videos/pictures of Pune’s civic woes over the next few days.

"If you see any piled-up garbage in your area, any construction debris, any illegal encroachments, dug-up/bad roads, traffic violations, please share videos/pics in the reply clearly mentioning the location and time stamp," she urged her followers.

"Tag @PMCPune @CPPuneCity @AjitPawarSpeaks @mohol_murlidhar @Medha_kulkarni @SidShirole @Dev_Fadnavis @ChDadaPatil in each tweet. I will amplify. Unless we all speak collectively, NOTHING will happen. #CleanUpPune," she added.
