In a blow to commuters' pockets, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has increased the prices of its daily and monthly passes by nearly 60 per cent.
As per its revised fare structure, the daily pass, which currently costs ₹40, will cost ₹70, whereas the monthly pass will rise from ₹900 to ₹1,500. However, there is no revision of fares for passes for students, senior citizens, and differently-abled commuters.
Along with this, the PMPML has also revised its ticket pricing. Under the new structure, there will now be 11 fare stages - six stages for distances from 1 to 30 km (in 5 km intervals) and five stages from 30 to 80 km (in 10 km intervals). This replaces the earlier 40-stage system based on 2 km intervals.
Deepa Mudhol Munde, CMD, PMPML, told HT, “The new fare structure will simplify integration with Pune Metro, ensure accurate fare calculations, and align with e-ticketing and the National Common Mobility Card system.” “It also aims to bring clarity and fairness for commuters while improving operational efficiency,” she added.
