Pune city has reported its first Covid case this year. An 87-year-old man from Pune was found to be Covid positive and is undergoing treatment.

Authorities said that there was no need to panic, as viruses over time become endemic and lose their severity. However, the authorities remain tight-lipped in sharing details of the patient, such as the area from where the case is being reported and the hospital where the patient is being treated.

Meanwhile, a fresh wave of Covid is sweeping through Mumbai, with two deaths reported. Cases are rising across the globe, especially in parts of Southeast Asia, reigniting concerns over the virus’s resurgence. Cities like Hong Kong and Singapore are seeing sharp increases in cases, hospitalisations, and even fatalities, marking the first major uptick in nearly a year.

An official said, "We have just reported one case of Covid this year and he is undergoing treatment. On Friday, we held a meeting and trained the medical staff and doctors against the disease, and it is being done on a routine basis. We are yet to receive specific guidelines from the state. But there's nothing to panic about."

The Free Press Journal tried to contact Dr Nina Madhukar Borade, Health Chief, PMC, for a comment. She said, "The weather is bad and I don't have data with me," and then the call was disconnected.
