The curfew has been imposed in Nagpur's Mahal area following violence that erupted Monday evening. An angry mob targeted several homes and dozens of vehicles during the unrest. Police have detained 17 people so far. Currently, the situation in the area is under control.
According to reports, the first clash occurred around 7:30 PM Monday in the Chitnis Park area of Mahal. During a subsequent search operation, rioters attacked Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Niketan B Kadam with an axe, leaving him seriously injured. Two other police officers accompanying him were also injured due to stone pelting.

Who is IPS Niketan B Kadam?
IPS Niketan B Kadam, a 2018 batch officer of the Maharashtra cadre, has a touching life story. Born in Nashik, Maharashtra, Niketan received his early education in a Marathi-medium Zilla Parishad school. He later completed his diploma and earned a B.Tech degree from a college.
After completing his B.Tech, Niketan secured a job at an IT company. Despite a good salary package, he wasn't satisfied with his work, though it helped ease his financial difficulties. Niketan harbored a dream of becoming an IPS officer.
According to reports, to pursue this dream, he moved to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC exams. After failing in his first two attempts, he succeeded in his third try. He has revealed that he once felt deeply embarrassed because he couldn't speak properly or communicate well in English, and his colleagues would often mock him for this weakness.
