Western Railway Appoints Pradeep Kumar As Additional General Manager: A Veteran Of Over 30 Years In Indian Railways
Pradeep Kumar is a senior officer of Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineering (IRSME) 1989 batch. With a remarkable career spanning over three decades, Kumar contributed immensely to Indian Railways through various key positions across multiple zonal railways.

Mumbai: Pradeep Kumar has taken over the charge of post of Additional General Manager of Western Railway on Tuesday, 6th May, 2025.
Pradeep Kumar is a senior officer of Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineering (IRSME) 1989 batch. With a remarkable career spanning over three decades, Kumar contributed immensely to Indian Railways through various key positions across multiple zonal railways.
He began his illustrious career as Assistant Mechanical Engineer at the Diesel Shed in Ratlam, Western Railway. Over the years, he has served with dedication and distinction in the Western Railway, South Eastern Railway (SER), East Coast Railway (ECoR), and South East Central Railway (SECR), holding several important positions.
His vast experience includes roles such as Production Engineer at Carriage Workshop, Ajmer; Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Carriage & Wagon), Kota; Divisional Mechanical Engineer, Vadodara; Dy. Chief Mechanical Engineer (Planning), WR and Dy. Chief Mechanical Engineer (Workshop), WR; and Dy. Chief Mechanical Engineer (Production) at the Carriage Repair Workshop, Mumbai. He also held the posts of Sr. EDPM and Dy. CME (Repair) at the Wagon Repair Shop, Kota.
Kumar has served in strategic leadership roles such as Chief Rolling Stock Engineer, South Eastern Railway (SER), Kolkata and as Senior Professor at the Indian Railway Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE), Jamalpur. He also held the post of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Sambalpur Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR). Before joining the present post, he worked as the Principal Chief Safety Officer in South East Central Railway.
An alumnus of Delhi College of Engineering (Delhi University), Kumar holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has also pursued Postgraduate Diplomas in Financial Management and Operations Management from IGNOU.
During his tenure as DRM Sambalpur, he led numerous commendable initiatives including the successful commissioning of doubling and third-line sections, significant growth in freight loading, and visionary planning for the redevelopment of Sambalpur station.
