Thane: A 39-year-old laborer was trapped for over 15 hours in a lift of an under-construction high-rise building in Thane before being rescued safely by the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams.
The man, identified as Aalo Hussain (39), works as a painter and resides at the construction site — a 35-storey tower in Majiwada, Thane. He reportedly got stuck in the lift around 3 PM on July 8 at the 21st-storey floor for his painting work due to a power outage.
According to RDMC officials, the site supervisior was waiting to resume the electricity supply, but it was not resumed at night, and then they promptly alerted the authorities.
According to RDMC officials, they received information at 2 AM on July 9 that a laborer was trapped in an open lift following an electricity disruption. Acting swiftly, the RDMC dispatched two pickup vans, a fire engine, and an emergency tender to the site. Local police, MSEB officials, and the building's site engineer were also alerted.
The under-construction site consists of a ground-plus-four-level parking structure and a 35-storey residential tower.
Yasin Tadvi, chief of the RDMC at Thane Municipal Corporation, said, “It was a sensitive situation. I reached the site at 4 AM. The lift had been stuck due to a power failure from MSEB. We immediately informed MSEB officials and instructed the site engineer to arrange a generator. After power was restored using the generator, the man was successfully rescued around 6 AM on July 9.” No injuries were reported in the incident.
