Thirteen people were rescued from a four-storey building in Thane where a fire broke out in a meter box room on Thursday, December 16 at around 7:35 am.
The regional disaster management cell (RDMC) and fire brigade personnel put out the fire by around 09:15 am, an RDMC official informed.
Thane RDMC chief Avinash Sawant said, "We received the information at the disaster management cell room at around 7:35 am on Thursday regarding a fire at Guruprerna building, a four-storey building opposite St. John school at Charai in Thane (West). In the said building, a fire broke out in the meter box room under the staircase on the ground floor and it spread to the fourth floor of the building."
Sawant added, "The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) deputy commissioner G. G. Godepure, TMC's chief fire officer Girish Jhalke, Naupada police personnel, Mahavitaran staff and disaster management cell staff were present at the spot with one pickup vehicle, one ambulance, fire three fire vehicle, one rescue vehicle, one water tanker and one jumbo water tanker.
Fire brought under control
At the site of the incident, the fire brigade personnel and disaster management cell staff brought the fire under control. Also, the 13 occupants of the building have been rescued safely.
The rescued occupants have been identified as Hasti Vikam (32), Myra Vikam (2), Keval Vikam (33), Mukesh Vikam (63), Gitaben Vikam (62), Nayana Rambhiya (60), Vinod Rambhiya (65), Ranjit Singh Rajpurohit ( 49), Shital Rajpurohit (38), Manas Rajpurohit (38) are the residents of Guruprerna building and Arun Kumar Rangi (25), Jitendra Kumar Prajapati (20) and Mevaram Mishra (26) are employees of Jyoti Book Depot.
Sawant said, "We have taken out one HP gas and one Bharat gas cylinder from the spot and handed it over to the fire brigade personnel. No casualties were reported at the spot."
