A 21-year-old woman lost her life in a hit-and-run incident late Saturday night at Nagla Bandar on the Ghodbunder highway, police told TOI on Sunday. This marks the second fatal road accident in Thane on the same day.

The victim, identified as Ghazal Tuteja, a resident of a residential complex along Ghodbunder highway, was riding her scooter around 10 pmwhen she was hit from behind by an unidentified vehicle near the Indian Oil petrol pump.

The impact of the collision left her with severe injuries, and though she was rushed to the hospital, doctors declared her brought dead.

Earlier that morning, a Thane police constable was fatally knocked down by a dumper truck near Cadbury Junction, making Saturday a tragic day for road safety in the city.

Following Tuteja’s accident, traffic on the busy highway was disrupted. The Kasarvadavali police responded promptly to clear the vehicle and restore traffic flow.

Police officials have confirmed that an investigation has been launched to identify and trace the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
