Sunita Jamgade, a 43-year-old woman from Nagpur who crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into Pakistan earlier this month, has been handed over to Indian authorities by Pakistani officials, police confirmed on Saturday.

Jamgade had gone missing on May 14 and was later found to have entered Pakistan through Hunderman village in Kargil, a region close to the LoC. According to reports quoting police sources, she was apprehended by Pakistani forces shortly after crossing the border, leaving her 12-year-old son behind in India.

Maharashtra Police Team To Bring Jamgade Back Home

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Niketan Kadam said that a team consisting of an officer and two women constables was dispatched to Amritsar to bring Sunita back to Nagpur. “She was captured by Pakistan after crossing the LoC and later handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) by the Pakistan Rangers. The BSF then transferred her to the Amritsar Police,” Kadam explained.

Authorities are now preparing to question Jamgade after her return to Nagpur. “We need to verify her intent and investigate whether she was involved in any unlawful activity, including potential links to espionage,” Kadam said, as quoted by the Indian Express.

Ladakh Police DGP Dr. S D Singh Jamwal had earlier stated that Jamgade was reportedly in contact with Pakistani nationals prior to her disappearance. A zero FIR has been lodged by Amritsar Police and will be transferred to the Kapil Nagar Police Station in Nagpur, her hometown.

Kadam noted that cross-border movement by civilians, particularly accidental ones, is not uncommon and is generally addressed through diplomatic channels involving flag meetings and coordination between the BSF and Pakistan Rangers.

Jamgade's 12-year-old son, who was placed in the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after her disappearance, will also be reunited with his family in Nagpur in the coming days.

Jamgade Suffering From Mental Health Issues

Family members had previously revealed that Jamgade was suffering from mental health issues. A former nurse who later worked as a door-to-door garment seller, she had been undergoing treatment for psychological illness and was showing signs of confusion and emotional instability before she vanished.
