Mumbai: Mumbaikars received an Independence Day gift on Friday with the opening of the much-awaited Mumbai Coastal Road promenade. Developed by the BMC, the 5.25-km promenade from Priyadarshini Park to Haji Ali and Baroda Palace to Worli, along the Coastal Road, part of the Coastal Road Project, was officially inaugurated on August 14 by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis via video link from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) new headquarters in Bandra East.
It is the first phase of the 7.5 km-long promenade, the remaining part will be opened in future.
This is South Mumbai’s first major seafront public space since the iconic Marine Drive, which was constructed in the 1930s. Remarkably, the new promenade is more than twice the length of Marine Drive, offering expansive open space for citizens.
To mark the occasion, a Tiranga Rally was held from Underpass No. 4 at Mahalaxmi Public Utility Underpass (PUP) and Underpass No. 11 at Worli (PUP), leading up to the promenade. National flags were distributed to visitors, many of whom took a stroll across the spacious walkway, proudly holding the Tiranga.
Closest Railway Station
The closest railway station to reach the Promenade is Grant Road Station and Charni Road Station.
Public Access & Entry Points:
Entry to the promenade is free, and citizens can access it through the following underpasses:

Subway No. 11: From Worli Dairy School on Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Marg
Subway No. 14: From Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk, Worli
All underpasses are equipped with stairways and ramps to ensure easy access for differently-abled citizens.
