Navi Mumbai: After the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) intensified its property tax collection drive, Rs 10 crore has been collected in just the last four days. With only four days left before the payment deadline, PMC has ramped up its recovery efforts by moving beyond pre-seizure and warrant notices and initiating the seizure of properties belonging to tax defaulters. So far, 132 properties have been seized as part of the crackdown.
“The intensified drive has prompted a surge in taxpayer response, with many rushing to clear their dues. As per the directives of Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, the crackdown was launched after the expiry of the seven-day notice period following pre-seizure notices. So far, PMC has issued 447 pre-seizure notices and 27 warrant notices to defaulters across different nodes, leading to growing concern among property owners,” a PMC official said.
Following instructions from Deputy Municipal Commissioner Swaroop Kharge, the seizure drive has been further intensified, with recovery teams actively visiting defaulters to collect outstanding dues. Under the leadership of Tax Superintendents Mahesh Gaikwad and Sunil Bhoir, record-high collections are being made across all four wards. As of today, the total property tax collection for this financial year has reached Rs 394 crore.
Meanwhile, PMC has reminded citizens that failing to pay property tax results in a penalty increase of 2% per month. Various awareness campaigns have been launched to encourage timely payments, receiving a positive response from the public.
