In a strategic move to strengthen its environmental initiatives, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced the formation of a dedicated Tree Plantation Committee to spearhead a large-scale plantation drive under the state-led Majhi Vasundhara (My Earth) campaign.
The committee will play a central role in identifying suitable plantation sites across the PMC jurisdiction, including vacant government land, road medians, and open public spaces. It will also coordinate with schools, colleges, National Service Scheme (NSS) units, environmental NGOs, and social organizations to ensure wide participation and sustained care for the saplings planted.
To initiate the drive, PMC held a planning meeting on May 22 at its headquarters. The session, chaired by Additional Commissioner Ganesh Shete and held under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, brought together over 20 representatives from educational institutions and civil society groups. Key officials including Deputy Commissioners Ravikiran Ghodke and Abhishek Paradkar, and Environmental Department Head Manoj Chavan were also present.
Speaking at the meeting, Additional Commissioner Shete emphasized that the success of the plantation campaign would depend heavily on collective ownership and long-term commitment. “Planting a tree is only the beginning. Ensuring its survival is the real challenge. That is why this committee is not just administrative—it’s collaborative,” he said, urging social and voluntary organizations to adopt trees and monitor their growth.

The newly formed Tree Plantation Committee will not only oversee implementation but also provide on-ground support, resolve logistical issues, and track progress through regular reviews. Organizations that participated in the meeting unanimously pledged their support, and the committee assured them of all necessary assistance.
With this committee at the helm, PMC aims to ensure that the Majhi Vasundhara campaign leaves a lasting green footprint in Panvel.
