Palghar Tragedy: Vasai Woman Dies by Suicide After Alleged Domestic Abuse; Husband Booked For Abetment, Search Underway | Representative Image

Palghar, Maharashtra: In a tragic incident that has sparked concern over rising domestic abuse cases, a 28-year-old woman from Vasai, died by suicide after allegedly being subjected to continuous mental and physical harassment by her husband. The Mandvi Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the accused  

According to the FIR filed by the victim’s mother, the woman consumed rat poison on July 16 at their residence in Vasai, following ongoing domestic discord and abuse. The victim had reportedly been facing repeated verbal and physical abuse from her husband, ever since their marriage.

“She was constantly tortured for minor reasons. He would come home drunk and create scenes, both mentally and physically harassing her,” the grieving mother told police.

Following the incident, the victim was rushed for medical treatment, but despite efforts, she succumbed to poisoning the next day, July 17, at KEM Hospital in Mumbai, where doctors declared her dead.

Based on the post-mortem findings and the complaint filed by the victim’s family, Mandvi Police Station registered a case under Sections 108 and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment to suicide and cruelty.

The investigation is being led by Sub-Inspector Chandru Patil, and the search for the accused husband is ongoing. He is currently absconding. The case has also involved assistance from Bhoiwada Police Station in Mumbai, where the hospital is located.

Police have confirmed that the body was identified by family members and a post-mortem was conducted at KEM Hospital. The FIR was registered promptly after official documents were received via post from Bhoiwada police on July 18.
