Palghar, Maharashtra: Authorities in the Vasai-Virar region have stepped up action against unauthorized construction, booking two sets of developers in separate cases involving illegal building activities in Nalasopara East and West.
Unapproved G+2 Building Booked
In the first case, Asif Shaikh, a private developer, has been booked for constructing a G+2 (ground plus two-storey) structure in Mahesh Park, Nalasopara East, without obtaining mandatory permissions. The unauthorized construction, spread over approximately 172.51 square meters near Saraswati School, was carried out between December 30, 2024, and February 4, 2025, on land located in Survey No. 44 in Tulinj area.
The complaint was filed at Tulinj Police Station by Harishwar Kashinath Tumbda (54), Superintendent of Ward Committee D of the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC). He alleged that Shaikh proceeded with the illegal construction without clearance from municipal authorities, violating zoning and planning regulations.
An FIR has been registered under Sections 52, 53, and 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, following due approval from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II), Vasai. Senior Police Inspector Vijay Jadhav confirmed that no arrests have been made, and the investigation continues.
G+4 Building Completed Despite Stop-Work Notice
In a separate and more recent case, Nalasopara Police have also filed a criminal case against three individuals for erecting a G+4 (ground plus four-storey) building at Survey No. 361, Dangewadi, Nalasopara West, in blatant defiance of official notices served earlier this year.
The complaint, lodged by Rajiv Pandit Patil (55), Superintendent of the Encroachment Department, Committee E, VVCMC, stated that a stop-work notice was issued on February 11, 2025. However, during a site inspection on June 25, 2025, officials found the building had been completed despite the order.
MRTP Act Invoked
The accused in this case have been identified as Iqbal Ansari, Arif, and Zaheer Ahmed Mo. Siddique Shaikh, all residents of Nalasopara West. A case has been registered under Sections 52, 53, and 57 of the MRTP Act, which deal with unauthorized development, removal of unauthorized construction, and applicable penalties.
