Navi Mumbai's APMC Market To Be Relocated Outside City; NMMC Considers 14 Locations

The Agricultural Produce Market Committee of Mumbai will move outside Navi Mumbai, with directives issued to CIDCO and the Municipal Corporation. Proposed land in 14 villages is under consideration for relocation by traders and parties involved.

Navi Mumbai: The Agricultural Produce Market Committee of Mumbai, which relocated from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai around 40 years ago, is now set to move outside the city of Navi Mumbai. Such directives have been issued to CIDCO and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

The Municipal Corporation has proposed land in 14 villages within the boundaries of Navi Mumbai Metropolitan Municipality. The administration of the Market Committee has directed the traders and other parties involved to examine the site.

On one side, the Market Committee is soliciting bids for redevelopment. Traders in the APMC have stated that if the market is relocated from Navi Mumbai, there will be significant resistance from them. Given that the Mumbai Agricultural Produce Market Committee is situated in the northern area of Navi Mumbai city, there is a plan to jointly develop this land. Initiatives are in progress to relocate the Market Committee.

To achieve this, locations in Ulva and Palghar close to the airport are also being considered. Nonetheless, if the location is beyond Navi Mumbai, traders and Mathadi will resist, and should the Market Committee be relocated, new facilities must be established for the working class and trading class.

As a result, there is a chance of rearranging the market committee once more. Thousands of traders are concerned because of this order. All five markets of the Mumbai Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) were relocated from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai during the 1980s and 1990s.

To achieve this, the government provided over one lakh homes to Mathadi workers and traders at affordable rates. However, a review is currently taking place to relocate this market committee from Navi Mumbai once more. The government has issued such directives to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

The government has directed to locate a 100-acre site for establishing this market at a new venue for the Mumbai Agricultural Produce Market Committee. In this context, the Municipal Commissioner of Navi Mumbai convened a meeting with the secretary of the Mumbai Agricultural Produce Market Committee.
