Navi Mumbai To Host Special Memorial Exhibition On 50 Years Of Emergency, Invites Public Contributions

As India observes the 50th anniversary of the Emergency imposed on June 25, 1975, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is set to organize a special programme to commemorate this significant period in the country’s democratic history.

In line with directives from the Central and State Governments, NMMC will conduct an 'Emergency Special Memorial Exhibition' on June 25, 2025. The exhibition will highlight key events of the Emergency era and the contributions of individuals who played a role in safeguarding democratic values during that time.

The initiative aims to create awareness particularly among the youth about the importance of democracy and constitutional rights. As part of the programme, a short documentary film produced by the Central Government will be screened at the exhibition venue and also in all cinema halls across the city.

NMMC has also appealed to local residents to actively contribute to the event by sharing information about individuals from the Navi Mumbai region who fought to uphold democracy during the Emergency period (1975-77). Citizens are requested to submit the names, contact details, brief personal accounts, past and present photographs, and if possible, video bytes (in both hard and soft copy) of such individuals or their family members to the Information and Public Relations Department at the NMMC headquarters by 2:00 PM on June 24, 2025.

This commemorative initiative is part of a nationwide effort to revisit and reflect upon the Emergency period. NMMC has urged the people of Navi Mumbai to participate in large numbers and make the programme a meaningful tribute to the spirit of democracy.
