A 26-year-old youth was brutally assaulted with bats and wooden sticks by a group of four men in Karanjade over a trivial argument on Saturday afternoon. The Panvel City Police have arrested one of the accused, while the remaining three are currently wanted.
The victim, Chaitanya Mhatre, a resident of Shambhuraje Apartments in Karanjade, was attacked around 1 PM when he returned home from work for lunch. Mhatre noticed Kunal Rohidas Dhamale (20), a resident of Chinchpada, sitting on the stairs of his building. When Mhatre questioned Dhamale about his presence, an argument broke out. Dhamale reportedly threatened Mhatre, saying, "Do you know who I am? I am from Chinchpada, and I can do anything."
Shortly after the exchange, Dhamale returned to the building with three accomplices, all armed with bats and wooden sticks. As Mhatre was leaving for work, the group attacked him, beating him mercilessly, said the police.

"Mhatre sustained serious injuries and was rushed to MGM Hospital for treatment, where he is currently undergoing medical care," a police officer from Panvel City police station said.
The Panvel City Police have registered a case of attempted murder against the four accused. Dhamale has been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the remaining three suspects.
An investigation is underway, and police are continuing their search for the absconding accused.
