Mumbai: A 19-year-old from Mauritius, experienced an extraordinary recovery following a severe foot injury sustained in a March 2025 motorcycle accident. While riding as a rear passenger, he was involved in a collision that crushed his right foot, resulting in multiple fractures and a major soft tissue injury. Initially, local doctors suggested a below-knee amputation due to the seriousness of his condition, revealing through CT scans shattered bones, displaced fragments, and a large soft tissue hematoma.
Faced with this dire outlook, Ashfaq sought alternatives and consulted StemRx in Mauritius, which referred him to a specialized hospital in Navi Mumbai for advanced regenerative therapy. Upon arrival, a multidisciplinary team devised a personalized, non-surgical treatment protocol combining regenerative therapies, wound care, antibiotics, skin and bone grafting, and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) over four months. The innovative MDI therapy, used in his treatment, mimics the body's natural insulin release to enhance tissue and bone healing, reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation, and support nerve recovery.

According to report by Midday, Dr. Pradeep Mahajan, founder of the Navi Mumbai hospital, noted that Ashfaq arrived with extensive damage that made walking impossible. However, through consistent therapy and careful monitoring, Ashfaq's wounds began to heal, bones realigned, and tissue regenerated. Timely treatment was critical as delaying it could have led to further complications, including infection, gangrene, or amputation.
Ashfaq's remarkable progress culminated in him regaining mobility; he could walk, climb stairs, and perform everyday activities without assistance. He was advised to avoid excessive strain, maintain good hygiene, and continue physiotherapy after returning to Mauritius on foot, marking a significant milestone in his journey.
Reflecting on his ordeal, Ashfaq expressed feelings of despair at the prospect of amputation, fearing for his future and independence. However, his experience at StemRx transformed his outlook as he received what he described as a "second chance at life." He emphasized gratitude for Dr. Mahajan and his team, who not only saved his foot but also restored his strength and dignity, instilling hope where there once was despair. Ashfaq's case illustrates the vast potential of regenerative medicine for trauma patients, presenting a beacon of hope for others facing similar challenges as he continues to inspire with his progress.
