Navi Mumbai: The APMC Police have registered a case under the Atrocity Act against an individual for allegedly circulating 26 objectionable animated videos of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Instagram.
The videos, which are considered defamatory and disrespectful, were reportedly created and shared by a person identified as 'Rajput' with the alleged intent of spreading hatred and creating social unrest.
The matter came to light when Amit Chauthamol, a resident of Kopri village in Vashi, came across the viral videos on Instagram. Disturbed by the nature of the content, which he believed insulted the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and aimed to defame him, Chauthamol approached APMC Police Station along with Advocate Swapnil Jagtap to file a formal complaint.
The complaint also highlighted that the videos had the potential to incite tension between communities. Taking the matter seriously, the police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
"Efforts are currently underway to locate the accused. The investigations are on," said a police officer from APMC police station.
