Navi Mumbai: Highlighting the deteriorating conditions at toll plazas across Maharashtra, particularly the Vashi Toll Naka in Navi Mumbai, an appeal has been made with teh transport ministry.
A citizen activist Jigar Dineshchandra Doshi has written to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis.
In his letter, Doshi pointed out a series of serious lapses in infrastructure and public amenities at the toll plazas. The Vashi Toll Naka, despite being a high-revenue collection point, is reportedly plagued by unhygienic conditions caused by rampant pan spitting, broken footpaths, unmaintained surroundings, and a complete lack of basic facilities such as clean toilets, drinking water, emergency medical services, and safe pedestrian walkways.

“The problem is not isolated to Vashi,” wrote Doshi, “but reflects a larger, systemic failure across toll points in the state.”
He has urged the central and state leadership to take immediate steps, including mandating essential amenities at toll plazas, introducing regular maintenance protocols, ensuring safe pedestrian infrastructure, and holding contractors and local officials accountable for negligence.
