Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai has been awarded a prestigious rank in the newly introduced ‘Super Swachh League’ under the Swachh Survekshan 2024, becoming the only city in Maharashtra with a population over 10 lakh to achieve this honour. The award was presented by Hon’ble President Droupadi Murmu at a national felicitation ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal received the award on behalf of the city. City Engineer Shirish Aradwad was also present on stage during the ceremony.
This newly created category by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs aims to honour cities that have consistently performed well in past cleanliness rankings. Cities that made it to the Top 3 rankings at least twice over the past three years were considered for inclusion in the 'Super Swachh League', which stands above regular rankings in status.
In addition to this feat, Navi Mumbai has retained its 'Seven-Star' Garbage-Free City rating and the top ‘Water Plus’ rating under the ODF+ category, reaffirming its place among India's cleanest and most sustainable urban centres.
Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde hailed this as a proud moment for every Navi Mumbaikar, saying the recognition reflects the city's long-term commitment to cleanliness and sustainability. He added that the achievement elevates Maharashtra’s reputation on a national level.
He credited the success to the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, MP Naresh Mhaske, and MLA Manda Mhatre. He also acknowledged the support of brand ambassadors Padma Shri Shankar Mahadevan, Padma Shri Achyut Palav, and Shubham Vanmali.

"The 'Super Swachh League' classification is designed to promote and reward consistent excellence in urban sanitation across the country and sets the bar even higher for future Swachh Bharat rankings. We would continue doing the best for the city," NMMC Commissioner Shinde said.
