Navi Mumbai: Panvel City police are on look out of unidentified assailants who killed a 45-year-old centring contractor who worked on a construction site at the remote area of Panvel City. The site is a part of group gram panchayat near Nanoshi village in Panvel Taluka. The deceased, identified as Babu Waghmare, a resident of PArgaon village was killed by unidentified men at around 4.30 pm at the construction site.

“There is an Adivasi pada wherein a house was being built and the deceased worked there. We received a call at the police station informing of fire shot and we reached the spot. As per another labourer who was present at the site, he heard a bullet sound and went to check on Waghmare and found dead with a bullet injury on the right side of the neck after which he started frantically making calls for help,” deputy commissioner of police (zone II) Prashant Mohite said.

“We are trying to trace the relatives of the deceased. He worked as a labourer as well as he took contract of centring at the construction site,” senior police inspector Nitin Thakarey from Panvel City police station said.

The construction site is located amid jungle in the rural area of Panvel and the villagers have claimed that someone who went for hunting in the jungle would have misfired.

The police however have dismissed the claim and suspect an internal rivalry or a fight with others at the site to be a reason and are investigating further. “Prima facie, the injury is by a bullet and not pallets,” DCP Mohite said. A case of murder has been registered with PAnvel City police.
