A three-year-old survived a horrific road accident after a life saving surgery. The doctors said that operating on her skull was like “piecing together a broken eggshell.”

Ariba Kureshi (3) met with a horrific accident while she was standing in front of a two-wheeler. While the driver suffered minor injuries, the child took the full impact of the fall. Her head injuries were severe as her scalp was ripped off in parts, her skull was shattered, and some brain tissue had leaked out. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in an emergency and later shifted to Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital, Powai.

The young patient, whose life hung in the balance, underwent a challenging operation that involved multiple specialties. Neurosurgeon Dr. Khursheed Ansari, alongside plastic surgeon Dr. Dipesh Malviya, neonatologist Dr. Shivkumar, and pediatrician Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, collaborated seamlessly to address the girl's extensive injuries.

The doctors described the challenge as "like piecing together a broken eggshell” as they rebuilt her skull and repaired her scalp. To fill the large gaps in her skull, they used tissue from the girl to create a protective barrier for her brain, ensuring her safety and aiding her recovery. "This case shows why every second matters in an emergency. This incident highlights both the effectiveness of modern medicine and the important responsibilities of caring for young kids," said Dr. Ansari.

Dr. Sameer Kulkarni, CEO of Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital in Powai, stressed the need for road safety. “This child's survival shows teamwork, medical skill, and strong will. It also points out a serious issue. We ask all parents to avoid risks when it comes to their children's safety on the roads. No ride is worth a life,” he said.
