Mumbai: Woman Makes 2 Hoax Calls To International Airport In Bid To Cancel Departure Of Delhi-Bound Flight; Probe Underway

Mumbai: A helpline at Mumbai International Airport received two back-to-back calls from a woman urging the cancellation of a Mumbai-Delhi flight in the early hours of Sunday, December 15, citing an unspecified 'major problem.' The Sahar Police later registered an FIR and launched an investigation, suspecting the calls to be a hoax.

Details Of The Incident

The first call came in at 12:41 am, with the caller identifying herself as Zoya. She urged the operator to cancel a Mumbai-Delhi flight scheduled to depart at 12:45 am. When asked for the flight number or the airline name, she failed to provide specifics, instead insisting that a serious issue would arise. Despite being pressed for further information, Zoya refused to elaborate and ended the call, as reported by the Times of India.

Minutes later, at 12:45 am, Zoya called again, this time speaking to a different operator. She repeated her request to cancel the flight, expressing concern for the safety of the passengers. She urged a 24-hour delay but, once again, refrained from giving any concrete details about the alleged problem. After briefly conversing, she disconnected the call.

Airport Informs Cops, Probe Underway

Airport authorities immediately alerted the Sahar Police, who began investigating the matter. The calls were traced to a location within Andheri East, under the police station's jurisdiction. However, despite their efforts, the caller could not be located.

The police are continuing their probe into the matter, working to identify the caller and verify her claims. Meanwhile, no disruption was reported for the Mumbai-Delhi flight schedule.
