Mumbai: With Independence Day around the corner, residents of Mumbai and Maharashtra are preparing for a long festive weekend. According to the official bank holiday schedule, all banks across India, including Maharashtra, will remain closed on Friday, August 15, in observance of Independence Day.
However, in Maharashtra, banks will remain open on Saturday, August 16, as Janmashtami is not observed as a bank holiday in the state. This means banking operations will resume for the day before closing again on Sunday, August 17, for the regular weekly holiday.
In addition to Independence Day, banks in Maharashtra will also remain closed on:
Saturday, August 23 – Fourth Saturday (Bank holiday)
Wednesday, August 27 – Ganesh Chaturthi (Public Holiday)
The Ganesh Chaturthi celebration is a major festival in Maharashtra, and a public holiday has been declared on August 27.
In states such as Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Aizawl (Mizoram), Bhopal and Ranchi (Madhya Pradesh), Chandigarh (UT), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Dehradun (Uttarakhand), Gangtok (Sikkim), Hyderabad (Telangana), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Kanpur and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Patna (Bihar), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Shillong (Meghalaya), Jammu and Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), and Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) will be shut on account of Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8) and Krishna Jayanthi on August 16.
Meanwhile, banks will be operational on Saturday, August 16, in states like Maharashtra, Tripura, Karnataka, Odisha, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, New Delhi, Goa, and Himachal Pradesh.
BMC Launches 'Har Ghar Tiranga' Campaign, Announces Multiple Programs Across Mumbai
In another news story related to Independence Day 2025, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has officially launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign in Mumbai to celebrate the upcoming national holiday.
Announcing the initiative on the social media platform X, the civic body stated that the campaign, which translates to “Tricolour in Every Home,” is being carried out across the country. In its post, the BMC appealed to all Mumbaikars to take part in the campaign and come together to make this Independence Day truly special. The BMC stated, “On the occasion of Indian Independence Day, the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, meaning 'Tricolour in Every Home,' is being implemented across the country.”
